The Week in AC/DC

For those who give
For those that take
For those on the line and those on the male
We salute you

This week AC/DC fans in the States took their seats at family tables across the land to pass the gravy, wave about turkey legs in the heat of animated familial conversation and, most important of all, to give thanks. However, you don't have to have to live Stateside and have refrigerator stuffed with leftovers to join us in our annual tradition this week of giving thanks for the release of For Those About To Rock (We Salute You), which hit shelves around the world 29 years ago this week.

Following the release of Back In Black in July of 1980, the ever expanding tour that ensued and the massive success they brought to AC/DC, the band thankfully took little time to soak it in and record a response. In less time than it takes to make a baby, AC/DC completed their final dates in support of Back In Black and turned around to deliver the epic For Those About To Rock (We Salute You), an explosive follow-up to Back In Black and the band's first number one record on the US charts. The album, packed tighter than your refrigerator the day following Thanksgiving with anthemic numbers and declared the band's best album by Rolling Stone - the one where "the case for the band's talents is finally made with undeniable force and clarity" - was exactly what fans were looking for and what fans, to this day, join us in giving thanks for: a no BS rock 'n' roll album born from the explosive mix of meaty guitar riffs and enough gunpowder to have won the Revolutionary War. Along with the album's release, AC/DC kicked-off their first arena tour of North America in November. The opening leg, which included a performance at The Checkerdome in St. Louis, Missouri on Thanksgiving day, gave way to a second North American leg, followed by dates around the world. If it wasn't clear before the release of For Those About To Rock (We Salute You) and the accompanying tour, it was certainly clear in its wake: AC/DC knew what fans wanted and weren't shy about delivering it. For this, we give thanks. And, to the fans, we salute you.

Until next week, that's The Week in AC/DC.
